Completed Project in Boulder, Colorado

Cascade Roof Cover Over a Concrete Patio Built to Create Shade, Comfort, and a Real Relaxation Space

This project in Boulder, CO 80303 transformed a huge uncovered backyard patio into a more comfortable outdoor living area with a 55-foot long cascade roof cover, new concrete patio surfaces, matching stucco pillars, and a sealed cedar tongue and groove ceiling. The goal was simple: make the patio usable, shaded, and much more enjoyable under the Colorado sun.

The Problem

A Huge Backyard Patio with No Shade and No True Place to Relax

The property had a large backyard and a large patio area, but it did not offer enough comfort for real outdoor living. There was no meaningful shade over the main patio space, which made the area much harder to enjoy under the Colorado sun.

The homeowners also had beautiful open views, but the lack of a proper covered structure made those views less enjoyable in practice. The patio had size and potential, but not the protection or comfort needed for everyday use, entertaining, or relaxing outside for longer periods.

The Objective

Create a Large Covered Patio That Supports Relaxation, Grilling, and Everyday Use

  • Add real shade over the oversized patio area
  • Create a stronger relaxation space in the backyard
  • Preserve the open views while improving comfort
  • Match the new structure to the look of the home
  • Upgrade the patio with new concrete surfaces
  • Support outdoor cooking and more comfortable everyday living
The Solution

A 55-Foot Long Cascade Roof Cover with Matching Materials and New Concrete Patio Work

The project was built around a large 55-foot long patio roof cover designed to provide substantial shade and make the outdoor area far more usable. The new structure was finished with blending steel standing seam roofing, matching stucco support pillars and beams, and a sealed and stained cedar tongue and groove ceiling for a stronger architectural finish.

To complete the outdoor living upgrade, new concrete patio surfaces were poured both underneath the roof cover and outside the covered area. This gave the homeowners a cleaner, more practical setup for relaxing, grilling, and everyday backyard use.

The Result

A Large Outdoor Area That Finally Feels Comfortable and Finished

The finished build gave the homeowners what the original patio could not: real overhead protection, more visual character, and a much more comfortable outdoor environment. Instead of a huge exposed hardscape area, they now have a covered space that works for relaxing, grilling, gathering, and enjoying the backyard views in a more practical way.

  • Substantial shade over the patio
  • More comfortable outdoor living in strong sun
  • Improved visual integration with the house
  • New concrete surfaces for cleaner daily use
  • Better grilling and gathering setup
  • A much stronger overall backyard experience

Exterior Scale and Night Presence

Because of the project’s size, the strongest selling point is not just the roof itself. It is how the long covered structure changes the full feel of the backyard and gives the property a more finished outdoor identity both day and night.

Covered Patio Scale

The length of the covered zone makes the patio much more practical for multiple outdoor uses instead of just one small seating area.

Covered Patio Experience Under the Roof

The biggest day-to-day improvement in this project is how much more pleasant the patio becomes once the homeowners are no longer exposed across the full space. The covered area now works as a true outdoor room.

Room to Relax and Gather

The covered footprint is large enough to support more than one activity area instead of limiting the patio to a small shaded corner.

Materials and Finish

Designed to Blend with the Home and Look Strong Up Close

This case is not only about shade. It also works because the structure was finished with materials that elevate the appearance of the home rather than fighting it. The standing seam roofing, stucco pillars, and stained cedar ceiling all help the project feel intentional and finished.

Relaxation Area and Backyard Ambience

This project also improves how the backyard feels after sunset. With a longer covered span, integrated lighting, and more usable concrete surface, the patio becomes a better evening space rather than only a daytime surface that overheats.

Why This Works

This Project Solved Shade, Comfort, and Scale All at Once

The original backyard already had size and views, but size alone does not create a comfortable outdoor living area. The patio was too exposed, too hot, and too limited in practical use for a space this large.

This project works because it addresses the core problem directly: a huge patio becomes valuable only when it has enough cover, enough comfort, and a layout that invites people to actually use it. That is what the new cascade roof cover delivers.
